Paul graduated from the Sydney Institute of Technology in 1985. He later earned a Bachelor of Science with First-Class Honours in Podiatric Studies from the University of Brighton in the UK in 1997. In 2019, he was awarded a PhD in medical research from the University of Tasmania, where he continues his research on physical activity promotion as an adjunct researcher and staff member at the Menzies Institute for Medical Research.
A long-standing member of Sports Medicine Australia (SMA), Paul has served as the Chairman of the SMA Tasmanian Council and as the Tasmanian Director on the National SMA board. He has also been honoured with a Sports Medicine Federation Fellowship.
Paul has a keen interest in musculoskeletal issues, biomechanics, and the prevention and management of chronic conditions through physical activity. He maintains an active lifestyle through regular bushwalking, cycling, kayaking, and scuba diving.
